Every area has its own kind of house. Here's what we run into most in and around Kalispell.
Flathead Lake properties
The largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi has a lot of steep, rocky shoreline around Lakeside, Somers and Bigfork. A hillside tram gets you and your gear to the water without the climb.
Ranch homes with basements
A lot of Kalispell homes have one main floor and a full basement. A stairlift or a simple two-stop elevator makes the basement usable again.
New construction
The valley keeps adding homes. If you're building, have your builder frame an elevator shaft now. It's far easier than adding one later.
Long winters
Icy steps are a hazard for months. An elevator from the garage, or an outdoor lift with a cover, keeps you off them.

Montana rules for home elevators
Montana
Montana's elevator rules leave elevators and lifts that sit entirely inside a single private home out of state conveyance permitting, but the work must still be done by state-licensed elevator contractors and mechanics. Building permits come from the City of Kalispell or Flathead County. For tram projects, Flathead County requires a lakeshore permit for any work within 20 feet of the lake's high-water line.
We'll tell you which permits your project needs and coordinate with your builder or contractor.

Do you install and service equipment in Kalispell?
Yes. Kalispell and the Flathead Valley are part of our service area for installs, repairs and maintenance. Call or request an estimate and we'll schedule a visit.
Does Montana inspect home elevators?
Elevators and lifts used only inside a private home are left out of Montana's state conveyance permitting, but the installer must hold the right Montana elevator licenses. Because there's no routine state inspection, we recommend a service visit at least once a year.
What permits does a tram on Flathead Lake need?
Expect county building and electrical permits, plus a Flathead County lakeshore permit for any work within 20 feet of the high-water line. We'll help you figure out exactly what applies to your lot.
Can you put a stairlift on basement stairs?
Yes. Basement stairs are one of the most common places for a stairlift. Straight stairs can often be done in a single visit.
